Flamingo, Dwarka waters, West Coast of India

Gujarat  especially the Rann of Kutch is the breeding ground  for both the Greater and Lesser Flamingos. These beautiful lanky birds can be seen in varying numbers at many wetlands in Gujarat including Dwarka and Beyt Dwarka. These beautiful lanky birds, locally called ‘Hanj’,
‘Surkhab’  with their whitish to bright pink plumage .
Thousands of waterfowls  can be seen in the salt- pans from October to March. These include flamingos, godwits, sandpipers, plovers, stilts, terns etc. About 200,000 flamingo in inter-tidal mudflats near the mouth of Mahi River.
