Turbahs or Mohrs, Iran

In Shia ‘h Islam ,  a Turbah or a Mohr is a small piece of soil or clay, often a clay tablet, used during Islamic daily prayers (salat). The turbah  symbolises earth.   The most favoured soil in Iran for turbahs is  that from  Karbala, the site of the death of  Imam Husayn Ali ; however, soil from anywhere may be used. The forehead is rested on the turbah during prostration (Sajda)
