Mahisha  , a symbolic a demon is confronted by Durga, the all-powerful Goddess.

Mahisha is represented as a wild buffalo, ready in this sculpture to battle with the forces of good led by Goddess Durga- Part of the great frieze in the rock-cut 7th century CE cave named the Mahishasura-Mardhini temple. A UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Mahabalipuram is on the east coast  of India facing the Bay of Bengal of the Indian ocean short distance from Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu in Southern India.
