44. Thirst Quenched, Bihar, India

Having stopped at a remote village in Bihar, I spotted this very cute little boy, about 6  years old at the water pump. The little child checked the water flow and saw it was just a trickle. He then repeatedly pumped the heavy cast iron handle of the water pump with effort, the water then gushing forth at which he washed his hands.. Cupping his clean hands, he  drank deeply before running back from where he had come from.  I found the simple scene of daily life of this child in the poor state of Bihar so touching that I painted a quartet of small canvas panels in series to get an impression of the child’s sequential action that I had witnessed.
