The River Jordan

The river Jordan , known in Hebrew as Ha-Yarden and in Arabic as Nahr Al-Urdun, lies in a structural depression and has the lowest elevation of any river in the world. The Jordan   flows southward about 223 miles from Mount Hermon into the Sea of Galilee, then into the Dead Sea, and is divided into an upper and lower course.

The Jordan River is considered to be one of the world’s most sacred rivers. There are countless references to the Jordan in both the Jewish and Christian Bibles, yet perhaps it is  most significant  as the location of the Baptism of Christ
