30. The Runaway Train, Punaka, Bhutan

I had been informed that there was no internal railways in the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan.  I did, however catch site of a pint-sized runaway train on a bridge road  in Punaka , Bhutan. With not a care in the world this little boy, carrying half a bicycle tyre (wonder what happened to the other half) came hurtling along  with bare feet making  chugging and whistling noises of a train. An old monastery wall was to his right and a steep escarpment with a row of colourful fence posts on his left. In the distance came his, I presumed, mother carrying the week’s shopping on her back and his shoes in her hand.

An endearing scene, never forgotten!
